OUR STORY
A rink with a lot of history. And a lot of heart.
Miami Roller Hockey is more than a place to play. It’s where lifelong friendships are made, families grow up around the game, and people who haven’t laced up their skates in years still stop by just to say hello.
Whether you’re picking up a hockey stick for the first time or you’ve been playing for decades, there’s a place for you here.
It all started with Stuckey.
In 1996, Richard “Stuckey” Stuck brought his roller hockey league from the JCC to the Palmetto Golf Course, establishing Suniland Roller Hockey. He ran the league for the next 20 years, building the kind of close-knit hockey community that still defines our rink today.
Brothers Augie and AJ Artiles had been playing roller hockey since 1993. They grew up knowing Stuckey—who even refereed their games—and eventually played at Suniland themselves. When Stuckey announced his retirement in 2016, they saw an opportunity to keep a place they loved, and the community around it, going strong.
Together with their mom, Donna Bruggemann, they took over the rink and began its next chapter as Miami Roller Hockey.
Stuckey’s influence hasn’t gone anywhere. We still keep in touch, he still follows what’s happening at the rink, and you might even catch him visiting. Our championship trophy—the Stuckey Cup, built from beer kegs—carries his name. And for those who know, the Stuckey Special lives on, too.
Hockey runs in the family.
Some of our adult players have been skating together since they were kids. Others have grown up, started families, and now bring their own children to play in our youth league. Even former players regularly come back to catch up with old friends.
That’s what makes MRH special. You might come for the hockey, but chances are you’ll stay for the people.
Our biggest addition since 2016 has been building a youth hockey program from the ground up. Watching a child discover the game at their first clinic, gain confidence, and eventually compete in a league is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Some of our young players have gone on to travel hockey, high school and college hockey, and opportunities to represent Florida and Team USA.
There’s hockey here for everyone.
We offer youth clinics and leagues, adult learn-to-play sessions, and adult leagues across Gold, Silver, and Rust divisions. Some games are competitive. Others are all about learning, meeting people, and having a good time.
Our Rust Division’s draft format is a great example: teams change each season, giving players a chance to meet new teammates and reconnect with old friends.
The rink also welcomes other activities, including occasional futsal, lacrosse, and roller derby rentals. At its heart, it’s a community space.
The family behind MRH
Augie Artiles handles much of the behind-the-scenes work, including schedules, rosters, the website, and adult league operations. AJ Artiles leads much of the youth program and on-rink coaching. Donna Bruggemann keeps the office and day-to-day operations moving, from league fees to player communication. Longtime family friend Sandra Regalado is another familiar face helping out at the rink office.
If you’ve stopped by the window to ask a question, pay your league fees, or grab a Gatorade, you’ve probably met one of them.
The next chapter
In 2026, the rink received major improvements, including resurfacing and updated boards. We’re excited about what comes next, including a potential roof that could make more daytime hockey, camps, tournaments, and fewer weather-related cancellations possible.
The goal is simple: keep improving the rink, grow the game, and make sure the next generation has the same chance to fall in love with hockey that we did.
